Avelo Airlines Tops 1,000 Flights at Tweed-New Haven Airport

• Avelo marks first 100 days of flying from So. Connecticut to Palm Beach

• Avelo adds 19 weekly flights from HVN for summer travel season

NEW HAVEN, Conn.; March 28, 2022 — Avelo Airlines announced today that it has surpassed 1,000 flights at Southern Connecticut’s most convenient airport – Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN). This milestone coincides with Avelo commemorating its first 100 days of flying from HVN to West Palm Beach, Fla.

Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “I’m very encouraged by the continued momentum and enthusiasm we are seeing in Connecticut. With the addition of popular destinations like Washington, D.C., Chicago, Nashville and Charleston, coupled with the additional flights we are adding for the busy summer travel season, our Connecticut Customers have more options for getting where they want to go than ever before.”

Despite the challenging winter weather, Avelo has delivered a reliable experience since its
arrival at HVN. When excluding weather and air traffic control (ATC)-related factors outside Avelo’s control, the airline achieved a cancellation rate of less 1% and an on-time arrival rate of 83% between November and March.

Tweed-New Haven Airport Director Sean Scanlon said, “For decades people asked for more service out of Tweed-New Haven Airport. More than 1,000 flights and more than 100,000 passengers later, we’ve delivered thanks to our incredible partnership with Avelo Airlines and we’re just getting started.”

In addition to surpassing 1,000 flights, Avelo also completed its first 100 days of flying to West Palm Beach, Fla. Since this service began in mid-December, Avelo has flown more than 20,000 Customers between HVN and Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) and achieved a 92% ontime arrival performance for this route, when excluding weather and ATC-related delays beyond the airline’s control.

Ready for Summer!

For the peak summer travel season between mid-June and Labor Day, Avelo is adding 19 weekly flights from HVN to its East Coast network of 13 destinations.

Avelo currently serves six Florida destinations: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, West Palm Beach, Sarasota-Bradenton and Tampa. For the summer season, Avelo is expanding service to each of these destinations. In all, Avelo is adding 13 weekly flights to Florida from HVN.

Additionally, Avelo recently announced that it is adding seven new destinations outside of Florida: Charleston, S.C.; Chicago, IL; Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Nashville, TN; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; Savannah, GA; and Washington, D.C. Avelo will begin flying to these destinations in May. For the summer season, Avelo is adding six weekly flights to these popular destinations.

A Different, Better and More Affordable Travel Experience

Amidst the crowds, long lines, lengthy walks and traffic congestion encountered at other airports frequented by Connecticut travelers, HVN offers a refreshingly smooth and simple alternative hometown airport experience. Additionally, Avelo offers several unbundled travelenhancing options that give Customers the lexibility to pay for what they value, including priority boarding, checked bags, carry-on overhead bags, and bringing a pet in the cabin.

The fuel-efficient 147-seat Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 mainline jets Avelo operates from HVN offer a more spacious and comfortable experience than the regional jets that historically served this airport.
